Intro to a Swim Meet

Good morning, Dragons,

Preseason is OVER! We're excited for our upcoming swim meets. I'm sharing a few tips that will best prepare you and your family for our swim meets. The swim season should be fun for all involved. Let’s work together to ensure everyone has a great time.

Let's have a great season. Please take a moment to review the General Meet Information.

  • SEASON:
    • The South TSA League is divided into 13 divisions. We moved up this season to Division 11.
    • We have 3 home meets and 3 away meets. Information for each swim meet is posted on the Meet Calendar for each meet. Typical information includes directions to the pool, warm-up times, deck location for our team, concessions information and more. https://arborcreekdragons.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
    • SAVE THE DATE: This year we will be competing in the Cary City Championships on Saturday, July 11. More info to come.
  • PRE-EVENT:
    • Swimmer Declaration - The deadline to declare your swimmer for the upcoming meet is 5pm on Sunday prior to each swim meet. Please declare attending or not attending for each meet.
    • Heat Sheets are posted to the Meet Calendar by Tuesday afternoon. A swimming heat sheet shows all the participating swimmers and what events they will participate in, along with the heat number and lane number. It is used to help swimmers, parents, and spectators navigate a swim meet.
    • IMPORTANT: The Heat Sheet is SUBJECT TO AND WILL CHANGE. For example, a swimmer may get sick and need to be removed from the meet or become available and need to be added into the meet.
    • Please contact me ASAP with any changes ASAP. You may contact me via text/call at 919-451-8421 or email [email protected].
    • Check this site regularly for details. https://arborcreekdragons.swimtopia.com/swim_meet...
  • WARM-UP and SWIM MEET:
    • Warm-Up time for HOME Meets is 5 p.m.
    • Warm-Up time for AWAY meets is 5:30 p.m.
    • A volunteer meeting (timers, Stroke and Turn, runners) is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. on the deck of each meet.
    • Swim Meets begin promptly at 6 p.m.
    • Please be ready to enter the pool at the designated time.
    • Younger swimmers sit with their age group and are supervised by a KID PUSHER. The kid pusher is responsible for getting the swimmer to the Clerk of Course. The Clerk of Course ensures that swimmers are in the correct lane for each heat/race.
    • Each swimmer is assigned a swim number (same as last year for returning swimmers). The swimmer initials and swim number will be written on the swimmer's arm prior to or during check-in. The initials are written above the swim number. The swim number does not change.
  • EVENTS:
    • The three fastest available swimmers will swim in each main heat.
    • Swimmers 6 and UNDER may swim in up to 2 main events and up to 2 relays. 6 and UNDER do not swim Butterfly. Swimmers may swim a 3rd individual event as an EXH swimmer but the EXH does not count toward scoring.
    • Swimmers age 7 and UP may swim in up to 3 main events and up to 2 relays. Swimmers may swim in a 4th individual event as an EXH swimmer but does not count toward scoring.
    • A typical meet order includes Medley Relays, Freestyle Individual, Backstroke Individual, Breaststroke Individual, Butterfly Individual (no 6 & under), and Freestyle Relays.
    • Ribbons are awarded to Main Event swimmers (typically 1st-6th). Participation ribbons are provided to the HEAT WINNER of heats AFTER the Main Event.
  • Parent/Coach Relay - Let me know if you are interested in participating in a future end-of-meet Parent/Coach Relay. All abilities welcome! Sometimes you get voluntold.
